Win Money Having Fun Fishing for a Good Cause

Manitowish Waters, Wis. – The 5^th Annual Bob McClellan Memorial Fishing Tournament will be held on June 11, 2010 from 8am to 4pm. 

Registration is located at Bear Country Builders, 5185 Hwy 51S, Manitowish Waters. 

Check in will be 6am to 8am and fish registration is from 4pm to 5pm, fish must be registered by 5pm to be eligible for prizes.

Cash prizes for the 5 largest Walleye and best weight of walleyes per boat.  There is also a Kid’s Category (children under 14 years of age} for the Largest Walleye with cash prizes. 

Participants are allowed to fish Vilas and Iron County Waters. 

This is an open invitational and all are welcome to participate. 

Entry fee is $150 per boat with a maximum of 4 people per boat.

There are two divisions, a Sportsman Division and a Pro Open Division (guides license required). 

Each participant receives a T-Shirt and raffle ticket with paid entry. 

Awards ceremony, raffles and food at 5pm located at the Rustic Roadhaus, 5198 Hwy 51 S, Manitowish Waters, WI.

This is a fundraising event with part of the proceeds going to the Bob McClellan Memorial Scholarship Fund that is given to high school students that attended North Lakeland Elementary School and are graduating from Lakeland Union High School.  Other portions of the proceeds will benefit needy families in the Lakeland Area.

The tournament was started in 2006 and since then the Bob McClellan Memorial Fishing Tournament has given over $16,000 to area families who are in need of assistance, monies to Camp Jorn to teach their campers the joys of fishing and fun of the Northwoods, as well as $3,700 in scholarships to North Lakeland Elementary alumni.

Bob grew up in Manitowish Waters; he attended the one room school house on Highway 51 and graduated from Lakeland Union High School.  After high school he served his country in the Navy and then came back to Manitowish Waters where he turned his passion for fishing into a great career.

Bob was a successful fishing guide, not only because he knew how to find the fish, but because he loved people and that was evident to anyone who met him or stepped into his boat.  Many of his clients became long time friends, coming to Manitowish Waters to fish with Bob for 20 to 30 years.  Bob’s garage (aka: Bob’s Bar), was the place to be on a summer day around 4:00 pm, even if you didn’t fish with him that day.  You would find clients, friends and family stopping by to see what was caught, hear the fish tales and Bob’s jokes for the day!  Bob always had a joke or several; he loved to tell them and he had lots to tell!

Bob passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack on April 16, 2006.  It was a shock to all who knew him.  Shortly after Bob passed away, his good friends Tom and Barb Kramer suggested holding a fishing tournament in memory of Bob as a fundraiser.  So, the tournament was set for June and was such a success that it was decided that it would be an annual event.  Because of the incredible support of this event, the committee was able to start two scholarships for students who graduated from North Lakeland Elementary School and Lakeland Union High School.  Portions of the proceeds also go to local families and individuals who have had hardships and need some financial help.  Proceeds were also given to Camp Jorn in Manitowish Waters for fishing gear, to make sure that kids who attend the camp from all over the Midwest can experience fishing in the Northwoods and start to understand why Bob loved it so much! 

The incredible support from the community, family and friends is what makes this tournament so successful and such a great and fun day.  Bob loved to have a good time with friends and family and loved Manitowish Waters, this tournament is the perfect way to remember him and to keep his passion alive.  The Bob McClellan Memorial Fishing Tournament Committee would like to say thank you to all who support this event, it could not happen without your extraordinary generosity.
